Mr. HONG Kim Suon was admitted to the Bar Association of the Kingdom of Cambodia in 1999 and has been a member of the Bar Council for two terms, 2006-2009 and 2012-2015. He has been working with local non-government organisation, Cambodian Defenders Project (CDP) since 1994, when he was appointed a Team Leader and Public Advocate. In 2000, Mr. HONG Kim Suon became a member of CDP’s Executive Committee.
From 2008 to 2012, Mr HONG Kim Suon represented a large number of civil parties with international civil party counsel, Silke Studzinsky, including clients across cases 001, 002, 003 and 004. He represented also many victims of forced marriage. Now, he continues to represent these clients alone.
Mr. HONG Kim Suon has completed United Nations Development Programme and ECCC training courses on International Criminal Law, International Humanitarian Law and the establishment of the ECCC for the prosecution of crimes committed during the period of Democratic Kapuchea. He also holds a Master of Public Administration, Political Science and Law and speaks Khmer, English and Thai.
In addition, Mr. HONG Kim Suon represents clients in criminal, political and civil (land disputes, divorce, human trafficking) cases in courts throughout Cambodia.
